I’m a Documentary Filmmaker and Cinematographer focused on character-driven, nonfiction storytelling. My work spans international documentaries, editorial films, and branded projects, published by leading global outlets and supported by major fellowships. I bring a journalistic approach, strong visual authorship, and a collaborative on-set presence to every project.
About
Matthew is a documentary filmmaker and cinematographer based in San Francisco whose work centers intimate human stories across the globe. Drawing on a background in photojournalism and writing, his work has been published by leading media organizations such as TIME, CNN, The New York Times, Der Spiegel, Le Monde, Texas Monthly, Bloomberg and others. His work has earned recognition from Photography of the Year International and the American Society of Media Photographers, and his documentation of protests in San Antonio is held in the permanent collection of The Wittliff Collections in Texas. His work has been supported by the Fulbright Program and the Pulitzer Center for Crisis Reporting.
Originally from Texas, Matthew holds degrees from the University of Missouri Journalism School, the Danish School of Media and Journalism, and a Master's in Documentary Film from UC Berkeley's Graduate School of Journalism.
